When aliens conquered majority of big cities in the world and mercilessly destroyed the smaller ones, we did not have much hope of surviving. Our last hope was a volunteer, who promised to save the world. There was no time to argue about whether it is stupid to put the destiny of mankind in the hands of a random guy or not.
