About Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs are among the most fascinating creatures that have ever inhabited our planet. They are known for their enormous size, diversity, and a lifespan that lasted for over 160 million years. They were a group of large terrestrial reptiles that appeared in the Triassic period (about 252 to 201.3 million years ago) and ruled the Earth throughout the Jurassic period until the end of the Cretaceous period (66 million years ago). This period, which encompasses the mentioned trio of geological periods, is also referred to as the Age of Dinosaurs or the Mesozoic era. During these periods (Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous), dinosaurs evolved and adapted to various environments. There were many species of dinosaurs with different shapes and sizes. Some reached gigantic proportions, such as the Argentinosaurus, which measured up to 35 meters in length and weighed around 80 tons.
Generally, dinosaurs are divided into two main groups: carnivores (theropods) and herbivores (sauropodomorphs). Carnivorous theropods included famous species like Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor. Herbivorous sauropodomorphs were giant dinosaurs with long necks and tails, including Apatosaurus and Brachiosaurus. You can encounter both types in our games.
Selection of the Most Famous Dinosaurs
- Tyrannosaurus rex: This impressive carnivorous dinosaur lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 68 to 66 million years ago. It was one of the largest predators of all time, measuring over 12 meters in length and weighing over 7 tons. Within our games, Tyrannosaurus rex set out to ravage many cities within the world, such as Mexico, Rio or L.A.
- Velociraptor: Velociraptor was a smaller theropod that also lived during the Late Cretaceous period. It is known for its sharp claws and fast movements.
- Stegosaurus: Stegosaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Jurassic period, about 150 million years ago. It had a distinctive bony plate-like structure on its back and two rows of long spikes on its tail.
The Life of Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs lived in various ecosystems across the globe. Some were swift and predatory, while others were massive and peaceful herbivores. Their diversity was evident not only in their size but also in their body structure, movement patterns, and dietary preferences. They faced extinction approximately 66 million years ago during a mass extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous period. The exact cause of their extinction remains a subject of scientific debate. However, their legacy survives in the form of fossils, which allow paleontologists and scientists to reconstruct their world.
Fun Facts about Dinosaurs

- Dinosaurs varied in their methods of communication. Some made loud sounds, while others likely communicated with each other through visual signals.
- There are many theories about the appearance of dinosaurs, but their exact colors and features are often speculative. Some research suggests that certain dinosaurs may have had stripes or spots on their skin.
- Not all dinosaurs were gigantic. There were also smaller species, such as the Compsognathus, which measured about 1 meter in length. Check and kill small dinosaurs in the Dino Hunter: Killing Strand.
